Science Museum - Computers

The photo below is a Cray 1 Supercomputer built in the late 1970's and it stands about 6 feet tall and what look's like seats at the base of the computer are actually part of the cooling system. The machine was hand wired to ensure that each piece of wire was the shortest possible.

This was one of the fastest computer in the world at the time but my Samsung phone is about 40 times more powerful.

They currently have an exhibit about Alan Turing, but I already knew most of what was displayed from previous reading and a visit to Bletchley Park last year.

Also some of the exhibits are run by some of the more recent minature computers (Arduino). These are so small that people are always finding new uses for them. The exhibit is about 4 feet tall and is simple mechanical display which is driven by the computer (Small blue square in first picture). The button is about 2 inches across.
